	Information about "Casa do Bacalhau" An encyclopedia of cod dishes! It is said that this location was the old stables of the palace of the Duke of Lafões. The area currently occupied by the restaurant 'The House of Cod' is the most western part of this pink-coloured building, the Duke and his family still live. This palace was built after the earthquake of 1755 due to the partial destruction of the previous Duke of Lafões family mansion, and is situated right next to the Convento do Beato. At the time of its construction there was hardly anything around the building, since the Tagus River reached practically right to the entrance. This is the backdrop for the dining room with nearly 90 places, where cod is served in harmony with the best culinary tradition of Portugal.
